Batini is King Khalfani's mate, and the Queen of the Northern Desert. Betrothed to Khalfani for a water rights agreement, and because the then-king of the Northern Desert (Khalfani's father) saw that Batini and Khalfani had started to grow from cubhood playmates to star-crossed lovers, Batini and Khalfani were united in a ceremony that granted prosperity to both of their families. Sadly, after Khalfani assumed his father's throne, Batini found that she could not bear him an heir. Undaunted, they kept trying. Batini took comfort when Khalfani blamed the worsening conditions of their homelands instead of her for their cubless family. Finally, after several years of trying, Batini and Khalfani were overjoyed to find out that they were to become parents. However, their happiness was cut short when the drought plauging their kingdom worsened with a vengence. When Khalfani told his pride that it was time to move on and seek help, Batini was the first to support his decision.
