At last we get to see how the whole family is getting on outside of Uru's story/flashback. :D And it's the first encounter Taka's had with Mufasa and Ahadi since the announcement was made that Mufasa would be the next king.

(You can see baby Zazu if you squint just right. :XD:)

This time, the first panel is a direct reference/tribute to :iconbalaa:'s beautiful piece of 2006 TLK fanart: [link] Her design for cub Scar/Taka is just perfect. :love: And that's what I base my Taka cub design on.

Next page preview: A pouncing lesson. ;)

Please mind your language when you comment. I love having feedback, but harsh words/phrases bother me. Thanks! :)

Start over

I am dedicating this comic "Betrothed" to the memory of ~Simbamarasa, the artist who inspired me to draw, and taught me how to draw, TLK comics. She will be dearly missed.

Okay, I know this is a really late comment, but I just gotta say... I was reading through the comic again (and the comic's comments) and I noticed where you said that your reasoning for Taka referring to Ahadi as "daddy" and Uru as "mom" or "mother" was because it seems like that's his speech patterns; referring to how he refers to Mufasa as Simba's "daddy" and Sarabi as simply Simba's mother. I have to say... I always saw this as a mocking way; a way of showing disrespect, or teasing, if you will. Like when Scar says "lucky daddy was there to save you, eh?" or "but this time, daddy isn't here to save you" -- both are said in such a way that it is mocking/making fun of Simba's closeness to his father, and dependence of him. It's kinda hard to explain, but you know how, like, when someone may refer to someone's parent as their "daddy" or "mommy" when they're teasing that someone, or trying to belittle their relationship and dependence on their parent; it just doesn't seem to have the same effect if they simply say "dad" or "mom"/"father" or "mother."

Anyway, that's how I saw it; Scar refers to Mufasa as Simba's "daddy" in that disrespectful and sarcastic way of mocking and belittling Simba's closeness with his father, and his dependence on him, but I certainly don't see him always using the word "daddy" in place of "father" or "dad" (both words, to me, generally either convey a sense of respect, neutrality/seriousness, or affection; of course, "daddy" certsinly can be affectionate, too, but generally only when spoken by a child, and tends to be referred to in a more sarcastic manner if spoken by an adult). Going a step further (and referring to many fans' theories of Taka not being close to his father), we could even say that Scar's "daddy" quips when speaking to Simba could be his way of referring to his own bitterness and jealousy of Simba having that relationship with his father that Taka/Scar never had with his own... But of course this is fan speculation, and nothing actually canon, so this is sorta another matter, entirely. ^^;

Well, anyway, sorry for the long comment... And I hope it actually made sense, as ridiculously long as it was. I tried to explain it the best I could, but I wasn't really sure how to put what seems so clear to me in my head into words... If that even makes sense. XD

Oh, no, it totally makes sense. And I've thought of it that way as well. :aww: The way I see it, it's a two-way street. In "A Tale of Two Brothers", Taka calls Ahadi "Daddy dear" and other things like that, but I can't remember if he ever called him "Father" or "Dad". So, if you want to see it this way: In my story, Taka calls Ahadi "Daddy" in an affectionate way, and perhaps senses that it is helping to build a closer bond with a father to whom he has no blood relations -even though he didn't know it at the time. Later, after Uru tells Taka the truth, Taka turns the "Daddy" name into something more mocking and sarcastic - a way to get attention. Perhaps only using the title "Father" when being serious.

Ah! I see. Well, in that case, that's a great way of explaining it, and it makes complete sense.

I'm really excited for the sequel, BTW. :D
